Supreme Court justice sparks social media fire storm for her comments on gender transitions for minors

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was slammed on Wednesday after she compared a Tennessee law banning gender transitions for minors to past laws banning interracial marriage.

Jackson and the other justices heard over two hours of oral arguments during the U.S. v. Skrmetti case, which involves the constitutionality of state laws banning gender transition medical procedures for minors.

U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar argued that state laws have the effect of “sex discrimination,” since the minor’s gender is key when determining specific medical treatments for those seeking to transition.

After Prelogar’s remarks and exchanges with the other justices, Jackson said that she saw a “parallel” between U.S. v. Skrmetti and the landmark Loving v. Virginia case in 1967.

“Interesting to me that you mentioned precedent, because some of these questions about sort of who decides and the concerns and legislative prerogatives, etc., sound very familiar to me,” Jackson said. “They sound in the same kinds of arguments that were made back in the day—50s, 60s—with respect to racial classifications and inconsistencies. I’m thinking in particular about Loving v. Virginia, and I’m wondering whether you thought about the parallels, because I see one as to how this statute operates and how the anti-miscegenation statutes in Virginia operated.”

Jackson also said there was a “potential comparison” between the Loving case and Skrmetti and wondered if Virginia could have banned interracial marriage by following Tennessee’s reasoning.

Got that? She compared banning giving children all sorts of drugs and mutilating their bodies to banning interracial marriage. Now, just imagine a President Harris packing the Court with a bunch of barking moonbats like KBJ.

Trump Will Have Enormous Power Over Climate Action. Here’s Why.

Why? Because he’s president is my guess

Walking away from treaties. Redrawing the boundaries of national monuments. Repealing pollution regulations.

As Coral Davenport and Lisa Friedman reported, when Donald Trump returns to the White House next month, he is expected to unleash a series of executive actions and other moves that will radically overhaul America’s approach to energy, the environment and climate.

Shockingly, people knew this when they voted for him. A lot of people voted for him to do exactly this. Why can’t Warmists practice what they preach and leave the rest of us alone.

Some of the moves have been well telegraphed. Trump intends to pull the United States out of the Paris climate accord, as he did during his first term. He is also likely to open up lands in the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments to drilling and mining. And he is planning to repeal parts of the Inflation Reduction Act that benefit electric vehicles.

I can see Trump leaving the tax rebates alone, but, taking a chainsaw to the EV mandate. He’s said it many times: if you want one, get one. Government should not force you to get one.

Trump is able to make all of these changes because, in a government designed to have checks and balances, modern-day presidents have an unusual amount of autonomy to shape climate and energy policy.

Suddenly the NY Times is not happy with the Unilateral President. They were constantly blowing a gasket over this when Bush43 was president, but, had no problem when Obama and Biden were in office. Perhaps Biden shouldn’t have gone so far in his use of executive power that allows Trump to roll it back.

During Trump’s first term, he used executive actions to undo much of President Barack Obama’s climate work. President Biden then followed suit, using executive actions to reinstate some Obama policies.

This tit-for-tat exchange has left the United States with a scattershot approach to climate policy during a decade when the effects of global warming have become increasingly clear.

Hopefully Trump will buckle down and forget about all the stuff he did in his first term and just focus on getting things done, like crushing the climate cult in the federal government.

Biden White House Is Discussing Preemptive Pardons for Those in Trump’s Crosshairs

President Joe Biden’s senior aides are conducting a vigorous internal debate over whether to issue preemptive pardons to a range of current and former public officials who could be targeted with President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House, according to senior Democrats familiar with the discussions.

Biden’s aides are deeply concerned about a range of current and former officials who could find themselves facing inquiries and even indictments, a sense of alarm which has only accelerated since Trump last weekend announced the appointment of Kash Patel to lead the FBI. Patel has publicly vowed to pursue Trump’s critics.

The White House officials, however, are carefully weighing the extraordinary step of handing out blanket pardons to those who’ve committed no crimes, both because it could suggest impropriety, only fueling Trump’s criticisms, and because those offered preemptive pardons may reject them.

If they’ve committed no crimes then why do they need pardons? Perhaps Democrats shouldn’t have tried the Lawfare scheme against Trump and others.

Those who could face exposure include such members of Congress’ Jan. 6 Committee as Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming. Trump has previously said Cheney “should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!” Also mentioned by Biden’s aides for a pardon is Anthony Fauci, the former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who became a lightning rod for criticism from the right during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The West Wing deliberations have been organized by White House counsel Ed Siskel but include a range of other aides, including chief of staff Jeff Zients. The president himself, who was intensely focused on his son’s pardon, has not been brought into the broader pardon discussions yet, according to people familiar with the deliberations.

Hunter can be compelled to answer questions for the time period covered in the pardon, from January 1, 2014 thru December 1, 2024. He cannot be prosecuted for crimes committed during that time period, so, if people want to put him on the stand he must answer. For people like Fauci, he would be required to answer any and all questions about COVID without the ability to take the 5th. Sure, he would be one of the main targets, but, we’d find out quite a bit about what he did and what others did. And, if he lies, well, that’s a criminal offense not covered by the pardon.

It would be tougher with Schiff, since he is still elected, but, Cheney is now a private citizen, and should be hauled up in front of Congress to answer questions. Republican prosecutors should haul her in to court to answer questions.

Carrboro, NC Sues Duke Energy Over Climate Crisis (scam)

Small North Carolina town sues energy ‘Goliath’ in historic climate action

A small North Carolina town has launched the nation’s first-ever climate accountability lawsuit against an electric utility.

The litigation, filed by officials from Carrboro, North Carolina, on Wednesday morning, accuses Duke Energy of waging a “deception campaign” to obscure the climate dangers of fossil fuels. Those efforts resulted in delayed action to curb planet-heating pollution, which has pushed up the costs of climate action today, the lawsuit says.

“When you’re dealing with something like the existential threat of climate change, that requires us to make bold moves,” said Carrboro’s mayor, Barbara Foushee, who helped bring the suit.

The litigation follows a November report from the non-profit research group Energy and Policy Institute, which found some of the utility companies that comprise today’s Duke Energy Corporation – including Duke Power, Carolina Power & Light, and Public Service Indiana – were cautioned about the climate crisis decades ago.

“Although Duke has understood the dangers of climate change for decades, the company actively participated in a far-reaching, decades-long campaign to deceive the public and decision-makers about these dangers,” the suit says.

OK, so, what will Carrboro do for energy? Has the town invested in solar and wind? How will everyone get to work in Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh (Carrboro is directly to the west of Chapel Hill and just to the southwest of Durham, so, it’s no surprise it is full of Warmists)? There are 5 gas stations (listed) in Carrboro: will they be banned? Will the city stop using fossil fuels for their operations?

The town, which sits about 20 miles (32km) south-west of Durham, is seeking damages for the climate-fueled costs of adapting roads and infrastructure to increased flooding, and for increased energy costs.

“Those costs could add up to millions, many millions,” said Crystal.

The exact amount the case could yield in damages is unclear.

“We’re content to let a jury of our peers determine what we get,” said Foushee.

Ah, so, it’s a shakedown. Too bad Duke won’t say “we will not provide energy during litigation.”

SCNY Mayor Adams Wants Criminal Illegals Deported

Perhaps it wasn’t the best idea of the Biden-Harris administration to go after Adams in the same way they’ve gone after Trump? Because now he’s apparently had an epiphany and thinks that having criminal illegals in his city is a Bad Idea

Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday that he’s open to deporting migrants from New York City who have been charged with crimes — a shift from his past stance of waiting for convictions before shipping off immigrant criminals.

Adams said he soon plans to meet with President-elect Donald Trump’s new “border czar” Tom Homan on the incoming administration’s plans to potentially deport accused migrant criminals.

“My position is people who commit crimes in our city, you have abdicated your right to be in our city and I am open to figure out the best way to address that,” he said. (snip)

He added: “Those who are here committing crimes, robberies shooting at police officers, raping innocent people, have been a harm to our country.”

Hizzoner contended many progressives in this era of “cancel culture” have been afraid to put their foot down on deporting criminal immigrants.

“Cancel me, because I’m going to protect the people of this city,” he said.

That is a heck of a switch. What brought this on? Has he truly had a change of heart? Is this a change because the Biden-Harris admin came after him? Was he or someone he knows a victim of crime by an illegal alien? Of course, he’s only talking about going after illegals who committed crimes other than crossing the border illegally, so, that leaves a lot of illegals in Sanctuary City New York who he would seemingly protect. Will Adams allow the NYPD to assist with picking up illegals who weren’t gang members, felons, rapists, murderers, thieves? You know most cops would want to call ICE.

Maybe it’s the cop in Adams who wants those who are actual criminals, and never should have been allowed into the US, to pay the price, since Adams was an NYPD captain. Maybe he sees all the criminality in the streets of SCNY. The prostitution, the theft, the assault, the constant parties and activities that cause issues for the residents of SCNY.

Obviously, this has set the pro-criminal illegals off

(UK Guardian) Immigration advocates condemned the mayor’s comments and called for an apology. Adams is “ripping a page from [Donald] Trump’s playbook, stoking fear and spreading disinformation”, said Murad Awawdeh, president and CEO of the New York Immigration Coalition.

“We should be able to expect that the mayor of New York City has a basic understanding of the constitutional rights of the people he serves,” Awawdeh added.

The city’s public advocate, Jumaane Williams, posted on X that Adams’ comments “scapegoat migrants arriving in our city for his own failure to support policies that benefit New Yorkers”.

“He denigrated immigrants and non-citizens as unworthy of basic rights,” Williams said.

They do realize they are talking about migrants/illegals who committed crimes, right? Serious crimes that hurt other people, right? Is this the hill they want to die on? Do they think most Americans will support the position of protecting criminals from deportation?

A Growing Rat Problem Is Probably Your Fault

Hearing more about rats? Climate change could be to blame.

Rats! New York residents have long had a toxic neighborly relationship with the notorious rodents, and in the city of Ithaca the pest problems seem to be getting more noticeable.

While city and county officials say there has not been a significant increase in reports of rodents, anecdotes traveling via word-of-mouth and online on platforms like Nextdoor claim there has been a rise in rat encounters locally. A few residents have shared hair-raising stories of rodents scurrying through apartments in Ithaca without much sense of what to blame, particularly as the weather cooled in late summer.

But the seasonal change didn’t bring as much cold weather as it typically would. One local expert said the 50-degree days Ithaca saw as late as mid-November this year may have something to do with the seeming uptick.

In Ithaca, warming winters improve rats’ survivability through the cold months, leading to higher reproductive rates in the spring, said Matt Frye, a rodent and structural pest specialist for Cornell University. Frye works with the pest management industry as well as state and federal regulators to address pest problems in or around buildings.

“If we have warmer winters, we have better survival of rat populations through the winter, which means more individuals that are around in the spring, when they really have a peak of reproduction,” Frye said.

See? Your fault. Even though this has happened numerous times during the Holocene.

Temperatures and climate play a role, but there are other factors at play as well. An abundance of food sources can also attract rodents — typically in the form of mismanaged waste or poorly secured animal food, especially in agricultural settings.

“Rats are opportunistic omnivores, which means they take advantage of whatever they can find,” Frye said.

So, basically garbage in the streets. Nope, still your fault.

President-elect Donald Trump cracked an old joke about annexing Canada, and Ottawa is still trying to figure out if it was meant to be funny.

Canada as the 51st state is occasionally a topic of conversation on both sides of the border. Homer Simpson once dubbed his northern neighbor “America junior.”

When Trump dined with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last Friday at Mar-a-Lago, the president-elect reportedly tried his own hand at manifest destiny humor.

Trudeau, who traveled to Florida with a small delegation days after Trump threatened across-the-board tariffs on imports from Canada, used his face-time with the incoming president to warn that the measure would punish the Canadian economy.

Fox News sources claimed that’s when Trump floated the idea of statehood for Canada, “which caused the prime minister and others to laugh nervously.”

Sure, a massive super-country would edge past Russia for the largest in the world by land area — and further integrate heavily interconnected supply chains.

But Canadian nationalists have long warned against Canada becoming the 51st state, including during a tense national debate over continental free trade that dominated the 1988 election. As the Canada-U.S. free trade deal expanded to include Mexico, Canada maintained its sovereignty.

Did Politico miss that it was a joke?

Canadian Cabinet ministers were hounded Tuesday by reporters looking for a reaction to the joke — including Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, who was at the Mar-a-Lago dinner.

“In a three-hour social evening at the president’s residence in Florida on a long weekend of American Thanksgiving, the conversation was going to be lighthearted,” LeBlanc said. “The president was telling jokes. The president was teasing us.”

LeBlanc’s message: Chill out, everybody.

Chill out, right? But, they needed 14 more paragraphs. It’s a joke, people. Unfortantely, most other Credentialed Media outlets also run on way to long with this, mixing in this and that and the other.

The media needs to lighten up quickly, because Trump’s term hasn’t even started yet.

Italy To Require Companies To Buy Climate Scam Insurance

Starting Jan. 1, every company in Italy must buy insurance to protect its assets from floods, landslides and other natural hazards that have become more common thanks to global warming. It’s the latest sign of Europe’s rising anxiety about climate change.

As the fastest-warming continent, its climate losses have increased by 2.9% a year from 2009 to 2023, according to the European Environment Agency. This year alone saw epic wildfires in Greece, a crippling drought in Sicily and costly floods in the UK, central Europe and Spain. And there’s still a month left.

No matter the continent the Warmists will claim it is the fastest warming continent. But, I’m confused: why is it warming when the government has forced their citizens to slowly give up their use of fossil fuels, outlawed certain types, replaced energy with solar and wind, and so much more?

That’s the insurance-protection gap — the difference between insured and uninsured losses from climate-related catastrophes, according to EIOPA data compiled from 1980 through 2021. The gap in Italy for all natural catastrophes is roughly 80%, based on Swiss Re research for the past decade. In the US, where insurers have fled states like California and Florida, the gap is a less onerous 42%.

There’s no such thing: weather happens. Always has, always will. Italy has a history of floods as far back as Italy has existed, easily back to when the Etruscans were the dominant force in Italy, the first true Italian civilization. And even further back. Because weather happens. This is all just a scam, and you can bet there will be lots of graft associated with this requirement.
