WWIII Watch: Zelenskyy Whines About U.S. Not Allowing Ukraine To Join NATO

Why would we?

Zelenskyy criticises US for refusing to invite Ukraine to NATO

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy feels that the present US administration’s and Republican leader Donald Trump’s position on Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO does not reflect the “policy of the world leaders.”

Source: Zelenskyy in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer‘s Trudy Rubin, as reported by European Pravda

Details: Zelenskyy added that the White House under Joe Biden is not prepared to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance, whereas Trump claims that the war would not have occurred if NATO had not provoked it.

Quote: “Unfortunately, this is the policy of one step forward, two steps back. I don’t think this is the policy of world leaders. These are the very cautious steps of my de-miners in the minefield. If NATO is not ready to protect us, and to take us into the alliance, then we ask NATO to give us everything so we can protect ourselves,” he added.

The Ukrainian president added that “if the United States is afraid to annoy Putin” – to which he attributed NATO’s reluctance to invite Ukraine – then it should provide Kyiv with enough funding to defend itself against Russian aggression.

Well, as The Hill notes

It is time for NATO to be honest with itself and Kyiv: Membership does not lie in Ukraine’s future. President Joseph Biden has been emphatic: He is not going to start World War III to defend Ukraine. That takes membership off the table as long as Ukraine is fighting Russia. Otherwise, NATO would find itself at war with Russia from the moment it joined, as the president has also vowed to defend “every inch” of NATO territory.

Many consider the notion that NATO was considering letting Ukraine in to be a catalyst for Russia invading Ukraine, especially when Putin saw a very weak Joe Biden. But, is Zelenskyy really pushing for membership, or just more money? He and his ruling comrades, both political and business, seem to be making a lot of money off this conflict.

Meanwhile

Ukraine war latest: Kyiv to let murderers into army; Kanye West ‘makes surprise visit to Russia’

Ukrainian convicts are being offered their freedom in exchange for their service in the war against Russian invaders – including murderers. Those convicted of rape, sexual assault, murdering two or more people, or crimes against Ukraine’s national security aren’t eligible.

This should go well.

Warmists Are Incensed That Supreme Court Decision Could Limit Climate (scam) Action

I wonder if the peasant level Warmists realize that they’re supporting Government and the Elites controlling their lives, for which the peasants will have no say. By the time they realize this it will already be too late

Opinion: The Supreme Court dealt a huge blow to our ability to fight climate change

The Supreme Court’s decision on Friday to discard the 40-year-old precedent established by Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council is a truly harsh blow against environmental protection and climate justice.

By overruling the Chevron doctrine that required courts to defer to federal agencies when it came to implementing broadly written laws, the Supreme Court will make it much more difficult for the federal government to regulate pollution — including, but by no means limited to greenhouse gas emissions — among many other issues related to health, labor, consumer welfare, taxation, and on and on.

I am profoundly upset at the damage that this decision will almost certainly inflict on our environment and the fight against climate change. But more philosophically, this decision is also upsetting because it represents a demotion of science and expertise in government.

In the federal government, agencies are where detailed knowledge about specific, complex issues reside; in a healthy society, they would have some authority to manage those issues. In other words, the agencies are the ones that know stuff, and if government is to be effective, they should be able to do stuff.

In our Constitutional Republic, the duly elected Legislative Branch passes laws that are specific and within Constitutional boundaries. The Executive Branch carries those laws out, and doesn’t go looking for minuscule phrases to expand their power. The Executive cannot simply make up their own power. They cannot take it. What’s been happening doesn’t just smack of authoritarianism, it is.

Politicians by themselves lack the expertise to deal with the rapid-fire onslaught of new problems we face in our technologically advanced society. Think of artificial intelligence, as a particularly hot example. Congress does not have the expertise, capacity or flexibility to write laws that can anticipate all the wrinkles that will come up.

Except, they can seek the opinions of experts in crafting laws. And, if you look at the Constitution, none of it matters: elected federal Congress members have the power. That’s it. Period.

Not only has the Supreme Court just hamstrung the experts in our federal agencies, but also the reality of our dysfunctional Congress means that it’s nearly impossible to pass any meaningful legislation. The Republican Party has opposed almost all environmental legislation since 1990. The ruling against Chevron will not be followed by new environmental laws meeting a higher standard of specificity, but by none at all. Instead, countless existing agency rules will be challenged in the courts — whose judges are no more democratically elected than agency staff members are, where technical expertise is no more present than in Congress and where many rules will eventually likely be shot down by the same justices who made this ruling.

Again, it doesn’t matter. But, Warmists want the Executive Branch to be dictators. They should remember that Democrats aren’t always in power.

The probable outcome will simply be much less regulation. Yet regulation is how government balances the interest of the public to be free of pollution against that of corporations that would benefit from greater freedom to pollute. It is the primary defense we have to protect public health, the environment, and other public goods.

It’s regulation for power’s sake. Power that they were not specifically granted. They do not care. If you won’t comply you will be forced to comply.

US Military Bases in Europe Put On “Charlie” Alert

An outlier, things that just happen in this dangerous world, or, something more nefarious? Fortunately, Biden is back at Camp David, and we’ll see if he’s back Monday or it lasts longer

US military bases in Europe raise security threat levels

U.S. military bases in Europe were put on a heightened state of alert over the weekend as installations urged vigilance among their members.

At U.S. European Command headquarters in Stuttgart, the Army garrison on Sunday issued a communitywide alert that the force protection threat level was elevated to condition “Charlie” until further notice. Similar directives were sent to other bases in Germany, including the Army’s Rheinland-Pfalz and Ramstein Air Base, which together form the largest U.S. military community overseas.

The Rheinland-Pfalz garrison alert includes Baumholder and outlying installations in Romania and Bulgaria. Aviano Air Base in Italy also rose its condition level to Charlie, and other installations in Italy introduced enhanced security measures.

The Charlie threat level “applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely,” according to the Army’s website.

Charlie is the second highest threat level, going from Normal, to Alpha, to Bravo, to Charlie. Is this something serious? Is there a real threat? Is this a result of Biden being completely inept at foreign affairs, and making the world a more dangerous place? Could it have something to do with European nations letting in gobs of unvetted illegals from radical Muslim nations who have no problem in practicing their radical Muslim beliefs in EU nations, and professing their hatred of America and European nations, people, and culture?

On Saturday, Spangdahlem Air Base, an installation in rural western Germany, issued its own alert that said 52nd Fighter Wing airmen were prohibited from wearing their uniforms off base as a precaution, and must commute in civilian clothing.

There are a lot of Islamist “refugees”/illegals in western Germany. The military is providing no reasons for the security status, and, it’s a damned shame that American military members cannot wear their uniforms proudly off-base, since they provide security for the EU.

The last time the security level was 10 years ago. You know, back when Joe was picked as Obama’s VP due to his “vast foreign policy experience.”

In recent weeks, U.S. officials have been sounding the alarm on increased terrorism threats, stemming from the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel and the ongoing war in Gaza.

Perhaps Biden and EU leaders should not be equivocating on the the threat from Hamas and radical Islam.

WWIII Watch: Iran Threatens To Get Bombed To Stone Age If Israel Attacks Hezbollah

Let’s see: Iran’s proxy Hezbollah attacks Israel from Lebanon, specifically going after civilians. Israel makes threats to annihilate Hezbollah (which would actually make Lebanon happy and help their economy). And then

Iran threatens ‘obliterating war’ if Israel launches full-scale conflict with Hezbollah

Iran is threatening an “obliterating war” if Israel launches an all-out conflict against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The thunderous warning came after the Israel Defense Forces hit several Hezbollah targets Friday in retaliation to the Iran-backed terror group’s barrage of rockets launched on northern Israel earlier in the day.

“Should [Israel] embark on full-scale military aggression, an obliterating war will ensue,” the Iranian UN mission said in a post on X late Friday.

The statement said that Iran sees Israeli threats against Hezbollah as “psychological warfare” and “propaganda,” but said that should Israel “embark on full-scale military aggression, an obliterating war will ensue.”

The statement continued that “all options, including the full involvement of all Resistance Fronts, are on the table,” referring to its “Axis of Resistance” that includes the Tehran-backed proxies Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis in Yemen.

It’s all very simple: Hezbollah needs to hold their fire. Stop attacking Israel. Don’t want none don’t start none. They should realize by now that Israel’s patience ended when Hamas attacked civilians on October 7th. They might have no patience with Hezbollah. Of course, that might be what Iran wants.

Of course, it might well not go the way Iran wants. Most of their military planes are antiquated, and much of their military is absolutely no match for Israel if the want to get jiggy with it. And if Iran goes to far, well, yes, Israel has nuclear weapons. Iran shouldn’t be counting on other Arab nations joining in.

(Reuters) Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday that Iran’s message of an “obliterating war” made it worthy of destruction.

?”A regime that threatens destruction deserves to be destroyed,” Katz said in a post on X. He also said Israel will act with full force against Iran-backed Hezbollah if it does not stop firing at Israel from Lebanon and move away from the border.

Be careful what you wish for, Iran. You just might get it.

Who Had “State Minister Of Climate Change Performing Black Magic” In Their Climate Cult Bingo Pool?

We already have the NY Times admitting that the Maldives are not Doomed from ‘climate change’ related sea rise. Now we have

Maldives Arrests Climate Change Minister for Performing ‘Black Magic’ on President

The state minister at the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy for the Maldives, Fathimath Shamnaz Ali Saleem, was detained and suspended from her position on accusations of committing acts of “sorcery” on President Mohamed Muizzu, Maldivian outlets reported on Thursday.

The Maldivian newspaper the Edition reported on Friday that the national police service confirmed that Shamnaz and Minister at the President’s Office Adam Rameez had been suspended from those top government roles due to an ongoing investigation but did not clarify the nature of the probe. Accusations of “black magic” can result in serious legal consequences in the Maldives, an explicitly Islamist government in a majority Sunni Muslim country.

Some forms of indigenous magic practices are legal with a license, and witchcraft is not explicitly illegal but is considered a violation of Sharia, or Islamic law. Islamic leaders in the island nation have, for years, attempted to strengthen laws against sorcery, with minimal results. (snip)

Multiple reports revealed on Friday the suspension of the climate change minister, who possesses outsized power in the Maldives as an island nation that prioritizes climate alarmism as a state policy. The Indian Hindustan Times reported on Friday that Shamnaz and Rameez were two of four people arrested on charges of “black magic” — specifically, “charges of using witchcraft, reportedly to get closer to Muizzu.”

“The incident came to light on June 23, following which the four accused were remanded in custody for seven days. On Wednesday, Shamnaz was suspended as the state minister at the ministry of environment, reported local media house Sun,” the Hindustan Times reported. It noted that Rameez is known to be close to Muizzu but disappeared from the public eye nearly half a year ago.

It’s actually surprising that the Islamic nation of the Maldives even allows this climate crisis crapadoodle, but, then, it looks like it actually started as a way to get free money from 1st World Nations before morphing into full on climate cult. Which interferes with practicing Islam.

The Maldives is home to a wide variety of traditional sorcery practices, which remain popular despite the prevalence of Islam. Their coexistence has resulted in years of imams and other Islamic leaders calling for stronger laws against witchcraft, though Maldivian officials have largely abstained from outlawing the practices with blanket legislation. Some forms of occult practices, such as fanditha, or sorcery, are legal, but practitioners must obtain a government permit to participate. Others, such as sihuru, or communion with demons, are not illegal but widely frowned upon and a violation of Sharia, if not the formal legal code.

Sorcery, climate cult, what’s the difference?

Supreme Court Rules Against Wild Rule Used To Prosecute J6 Folks

If you’ve noticed, the majority of those who wandered peacefully through the halls of Congress were not charged with insurrection. They were charged with violating record keeping. Then typically held in jail without bond till their trial, sometimes in solitary

Supreme Court limits scope of obstruction law used in Jan. 6 prosecutions

The Supreme Court has narrowed the scope of a federal law used to charge hundreds of people with obstructing Congress during the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, jeopardizing many of those criminal cases.

The 6-3 ruling on Friday — in which two justices crossed the court’s usual ideological lines — may force federal prosecutors to reconsider charges in dozens of pending cases, and it could require judges to resentence some defendants already sent to prison for interfering with Congress’ effort to certify Joe Biden’s victory in the last presidential contest. About 350 of the 1,400-plus charged Jan. 6 defendants have faced obstruction charges now thrown into doubt by the court.

The majority concluded that the felony obstruction provision passed in 2002 in the wake of the Enron scandal applies only in cases where prosecutors can show a defendant attempted to tamper or interfere with documents or other records related to a government proceeding. The court rejected the government’s view that the disputed provision covers other activities that could obstruct an official proceeding — a ruling that hinged on an extensive analysis of the word “otherwise” built into the statute.

“Reading [the provision] to cover all forms of obstructive conduct would override Congress’s careful delineation of which penalties were appropriate for which offenses,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the court’s majority.

What they’re talking about is Sarbanes-Oxley, which is about record keeping. Things like having to keep documents, that you need to keep all business emails, etc. When you delete an email from your work email it may disappear from your inbox but it is kept in a backend server. This is what the government used to go after many who really did next to nothing, because our Department of Justice is a political arm of the Democrats and uses creative methods to go after Republicans. Charging people with crimes should be easy: prosecutors shouldn’t have to go looking for creative charges to jail people. That’s a complete perversion of the legal system.

The ruling may have a limited impact on the obstruction charges former President Donald Trump faces for his effort to thwart the certification of the 2020 election results. Special counsel Jack Smith has argued that even under the narrowest interpretation of the statute, Trump is still culpable for obstruction because he sought to introduce fabricated documents — false electoral vote certificates — as part of his sweeping bid to stay in power.

If the government can get all sorts of creative, finding obscure ways to charge a former president instead of having something straightforward, they can easily do this to you, which should scare every citizen of this nation. Even the Democrat peasants should be concerned, because you never know if these authoritarian government workers will come after you in such a creative manner.

That argument, however, may not be available in many other Jan. 6-related cases. If prosecutors cannot show that rioters intended to impede the tallying of physical electoral vote certificates, the Justice Department likely will have to drop obstruction charges.

These people are threatened with 20 years in jail for wandering around the Capitol Building. Compare this to those involved in attacking federal workers and firebombing the federal building in Portland in 2020. For instance, Edward Carubis, who assaulted a federal officer, ended up pleading guilty to one misdemeanor charge of assaulting a federal officer, and was hit with “time served.” That’s it. Which is the same for most. None have been specifically charged with things like firebombing the building, or attempted murder, since there were people in the building when they tried to set it on fire. This is a total mismatch in treatment to the J6 people, despite the violence and property destruction.

Roberts warned that the Justice Department’s “novel interpretation would criminalize a broad swath of prosaic conduct, exposing activists and lobbyists alike to decades in prison.”

Those who assaulted federal officers get misdemeanors. Those who walked around Congress get major felonies for record keeping. Think one what government could do. That’s what Roberts is saying.

Bummer: Trump Won’t Commit To Doing Anything About Hotcoldwetdry

Well, Trump has already said he would love to build lots of nuclear power plants

Trump Won’t Commit to Doing Anything About Climate Change

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday refused to commit to taking any action to address the climate crisis.

Asked during the first 2024 presidential debate if he would take any action as president to slow the climate crisis, Trump first spoke about how police groups are supporting his campaign. Next, he falsely claimed that President Joe Biden had called African Americans “superpredators,” adding that Biden has “also done a horrible job for Hispanics.”

CNN gave Trump another opportunity to name any action he would take as president to slow the climate crisis.

“So I want absolutely immaculate clean water, and I want absolutely clean air,” Trump responded. “And we had it. We had H2O, we had the best numbers ever. And we did. We were using all forms of energy, all forms — everything. And yet, during my four years, I had the best environmental numbers ever — and my top environmental people gave me that statistic just before I walked on the stage. Actually, that is true.”

You know, I remember a time when Rolling Stone was counter-culture, when they said not to trust anyone over 30, when they refused to believe the government line without rock-solid proof, and, even then, they’d be skeptical. They lost their roots to the hippy times.

But, yeah, Trump mostly talks about fossil fuels (I still do not buy into clean coal), releasing American energy. He’s never had a problem with solar and wind, but, he doesn’t want them to replace fossil fuels until they can actually compete, and without desecrate vast tracks of wilderness and waterways. He doesn’t buy into the climate cult. He will try and end the Green New Deal. He’ll reverse the mandates which force citizens into EVs (and, by citizens, I mean the middle and working class. Few elites actually travel in one). My one bit that I did not like is that he took way too long to get the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accord. Should have been done in the first week, not his last few months.
