Juror Sent Cousin Message Saying Trump Was Convicted A Day Before Judgement

Aren’t the jurors supposed to be in seclusion? This is the kind of thing that should lead to a mistrial

What should happen is that a mistrial is declared and a higher court jumps in to say “stop. This is insane. It would get crushed on appeal, and Merchan and Bragg are sanctioned.”

Judge in Trump hush money trial flags Facebook post claiming juror spoke about case

The judge who oversaw former President Donald Trump’s hush money criminal trial in New York made the parties aware Friday of a post to the court system’s Facebook page.

In the post, a user said, “My cousin is a juror and says Trump is getting convicted Thank you folks for all your hard work!!!!”

Judge Juan Merchan said the comment, now labeled as one week old, responded to a routine court system notice, posted on May 29, 2024, regarding oral arguments in the Fourth Department of the Appellate Division unrelated to this proceeding.

The notification by the judge did not ask the parties to do anything but seemed intended to merely flag them.

Will this mean anything? Could it short-circuit the need for an appeal?

(Breitbart) Under New York law, “a defendant can move to vacate a verdict on the basis of juror misconduct if and only if he can prove, by a preponderance of the evidence,” that there was misconduct, and that the misconduct “created a substantial risk of prejudice,” according to NBC News.

Why did the juror have any access to the outside to start with? That seems misconduct within the court.

Virginia Will No Longer Follow California On EV Mandates

Good news for Virginians

https://x.com/GovernorVA/status/1798835366482547019

Governor Youngkin should be asking Gavin Newsom if he’s tooling around in an EV

(WUSA9) Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced the end of the California electric vehicle mandate in the Commonwealth. Youngkin has been pushing against the policy for years.

Virginia adopted new regulations in 2022 passed by the California Air Resources Board that would phase out new gas-powered vehicle sales by 2035 to achieve zero emissions, creating a new path for more electrical vehicles. California’s environmental model is much stricter than what’s established by the federal government.

“Once again, Virginia is declaring independence – this time from a misguided electric vehicle mandate imposed by unelected leaders nearly 3,000 miles away from the Commonwealth,” Youngkin said in a statement.

Under the California standards, zero-emission vehicles would have to make up at least 22% of new vehicle sales by the end of next year; if not, manufacturers must pay a penalty.

“Virginians deserve the freedom to choose which vehicles best fit the needs of their families and businesses,” Youngkin added.

Exactly. If you want an EV, get one. No one is stopping you. Have at it. This is America, so, you should get your choice. Government should not be forcing consumers into EVs. Heck, by 2035 they might be ready for prime time and give us the range and ease of quick charging like fossil fueled vehicles. Maybe not. Regardless, it should be our choice.

Meanwhile

Don’t forget, Joe flew to Normandy, then took a shorthaul flight on AF1 to Paris. Shorthaul flights are banned for the peasants in France. I bet Macron few to Normandy and then back to Paris.

Spain Asks To Join South Africa’s Court Case Against Israel

There is one slight snag, though

Spain applies to join South Africa’s case at top UN court accusing Israel of genocide

Spain became on Thursday the first European country to ask a United Nations court for permission to join South Africa’s case accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza.

South Africa filed its case with the International Court of Justice late last year. It alleged that Israel was breaching the genocide convention in its military assault that has laid waste to large swaths of Gaza.

The court has ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in the southern Gaza city of Rafah but stopped short of ordering a cease-fire for the enclave. Israel has not complied and shows no sign of doing so.

“There should be no doubt that Spain will remain on the right side of history,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said after his foreign minister made the announcement.

Does Spain remember when they were conquered by the Muslims in the past? Because this is a way they can be conquered again, this time voluntarily, as we’ve seen in many other EU nations. Why are they even involved? South Africa is devolving quickly to a 3rd world nation, why follow them? Also, there could be a slight issue

Huh. Looks like Spaniards are willing to Jew hate but they do not want to take Palestinians in, the same as all the Arab states. But, they already made the mistake, so, it should be interesting when the Islamists invade Spain (and Ireland and Norway, which recognized Palestine) and destroy the country.

Nearly Half Of Climate Cult Journalists Whine About Getting “Threats”

Well, hey, perhaps if they were doing the job of being a reporter rather than trotting out doomsday cult propaganda it wouldn’t be an issue. If they weren’t constantly writing uncritically about doom and gloom, it wouldn’t be a problem. If they weren’t blowing off actual science in favor of junk science it wouldn’t be a problem

Nearly half of journalists covering climate crisis globally received threats for their work

Almost four out of every 10 journalists covering the climate crisis and environment issues have been threatened as a result of their work, with 11% subjected to physical violence, according to groundbreaking new research.

A global survey of more than 740 reporters and editors from 102 countries found that 39% of those threatened “sometimes” or “frequently” were targeted by people engaged in illegal activities such as logging and mining. Some 30%, meanwhile, were threatened with legal action – reflecting a growing trend towards corporations and governments deploying the judicial system to muzzle free speech.

The global survey by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and Deakin University is the first-of-its-kind scrutiny of the challenges faced by journalists covering arguably the most pressing – if not existential – issues of our time.

The Covering the Planet report includes in-depth interviews with 74 journalists from 31 countries about what help they need to do a better job reporting extreme weather, plastics pollution, water scarcity, and mining as global heating and unchecked corporate greed pushes the planet to its limits.

In fairness, reporters who call out actual wrongdoing will get threats for legal action and such, and there are certainly companies and individuals who are bad for the environment and could be breaking law. Of course, that’s completely separate from ‘climate change’, and people do not take kindly to “reporters” pushing a cult that is attempting to get government to institute higher taxes/fees, control our lives, and reduce our freedom.

The survey also found an overwhelming need for more resources for newsrooms covering the environment and the climate crisis: 76% of those surveyed said insufficient resources limit their coverage, and identified more funding for in-depth journalism, in-person training and workshops, and more access to relevant data and subject experts as among their top priorities.

Well, then convince your companies to fund you. Obviously, this doesn’t generate revenue. I wonder how many of the 740 drive EVs themselves?

Immigration Theater: Biden Will Now Try To Appease Progressives

His executive order was absurd to start with. Now we get

Biden’s border move infuriated progressives. He’s trying to fix that.

spite housePresident Joe Biden enraged progressives this week when he clamped down on asylum at the southern border. Now he’s looking at policies that may appease them.

The administration is considering new actions for undocumented immigrants, lawmakers and immigration advocates say. The internal discussions come after Biden officials have spent months crafting Tuesday’s new border restrictions, with top aides fixated on beating back GOP criticism over the president’s handling of immigration. (snip)

As part of that effort, White House officials are looking closely at “parole in place” for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens, which would shield them from deportation and allow them to work legally while they pursue a path to citizenship, the people said, adding that any moves may not come until after Biden’s debate this month with Donald Trump. The program could provide temporary relief for an estimated 1.2 million people.

Jumping ahead of the line of people who are looking to gain citizenship the legal way. Would this really appease the wackadoodle left?

Biden officials acknowledge that there could be political gains in taking action for long-term, undocumented residents, as polls show Americans support border security as well as paths to citizenship, though they caution that it remains unclear whether the president will ultimately move forward. Biden campaign pollster Matt Barreto pointed to DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) in 2012, which saw no backlash from white voters, moderates or swing voters. President Barack Obama ultimately did well with Latino voters, and when policies are rolled out with “a lot of care and thought,” Barreto added, “it goes back to my overarching point: the American public wants to see action taken on the immigration issue.”

This could well appease them a bit, but, will Brandon give it a try? The GOP would then come after him as this would simply enable more people to come to the U.S. illegally. And, that ends any notion of Biden taking action to appease the moonbats (who also hate when illegals are shipped to their cities).

Discussions inside the administration about its next moves come as Biden officials remain concerned about the situation at the southern border — their fears heightened by general-election polls showing immigration as both a top issue for voters and one on which the president gets poor marks, particularly against Trump. Biden’s aides believe moderate Democrats and independent voters will reward the president for cracking down on migration this week.

Will they, though? Or, will they see right through Biden’s EO as the mule fritters it actually is? Will they wonder why Biden opened the floodgates at the border through most of his term, and then give an EO which will probably not be enforced right before the election? Combine this with the poor economy, and that’s going to leave a mark. Can Trump and the GOP take advantage? Will Trump say the right things, or, do his normal schtick?

Oh Noes: Global Boiling Threatens Democracy Around The World

Bad Weather is apparently bad for voting, and never happened before 1850

How Climate Change Threatens Democracy

This year, at least 68 countries will hold elections, with billions of voters heading to the polls. Voting will be subject to many of the usual electoral risks, including disinformation campaigns, foreign interference, and rigging by incumbents. In some states, both incumbents and challengers could even use violence to keep certain people at home.

But there will be another factor, one not yet widely considered, that could skew results: the physical forces unleashed by climate change. They present a unique and novel challenge. Although all electoral threats are serious, the ones brought by climate change have the potential to disenfranchise voters even in the absence of malevolent intent. The disenfranchisement of even a few voters can make a profound difference in election outcomes, as in the case of the 537 votes in Florida that determined the U.S. presidential election in 2000. As extreme weather events become more frequent, the risk to voters will grow.

Of course, they aren’t actually becoming more frequent, you just see them more because of everyone being able to take video and put it up on social media. So, what’s this really about?

Electoral authorities in all countries, including Australia, Canada, India, and the United States, must take action to ensure that—even if polling places, ID cards, and communication networks are damaged or destroyed—citizens can exercise their fundamental democratic right to vote. Options include relocating polling stations, making the rules on registration more flexible, and protecting communications networks.

There it is: we have to make it easier for people to vote even if they are outside the rules. Outside their districts. Dead. Voting multiple times. Their address is a graveyard. They’re illegal aliens and lawful residents who are not eligible to vote. In a coffin. Seriously, most states have early voting periods: if you can’t get there during that time period that’s on you. This is all about enabling more cheating during elections.

Bummer: Biden’s Border Order To Create Chaos And Suffering

I know that the order is simply an election year stunt to attempt to convince voters that he’s Doing Something after doing the exact opposite for over three years, but, are we really caring that this creates hardship and suffering for illegal aliens invading our nation?

Biden’s migrant order is recipe for chaos at US border: ‘It will only cause suffering’

Joe Biden on Tuesday signed an aggressive new immigration order suspending asylum rights, signalling that “securing the border” was a central tenet of his re-election bid.

At the southern US border, the policy is set to cause chaos and hardship for those seeking the protection of the United States.

The executive order revealed on Tuesday revokes – at least temporarily – the country’s longstanding promise that anyone who sets foot on US soil can ask for refuge.

Meaning it ends the minute Biden wins re-election, provided he does.

Starting at 12.01am Wednesday, the government will be able to return people apprehended at the border to Mexico or their home countries within hours or days if a daily number of crossings is exceeded, giving them little chance to apply for asylum.

On Tuesday afternoon, lawyers who work with people attempting to cross the border were still scrambling to understand how exactly the order would work – as detailed regulations had yet to be made public. But what was sure, they said, was that it would create panic and chaos at the border in the short term. The rush of people fleeing violence and chaos in their home countries is unlikely to stop overnight, they cautioned.

“It can’t be counted on to reduce, or to stop, people from coming,” said Monika Y Langarica, a senior attorney with the Center for Immigration Law and Policy (CILP) based at the border in San Diego. “But it certainly will create confusion. It will create disorder, and it will put people’s lives in danger.”

That’s their problem. They decided to make a long trek to the U.S., thinking they would get free food, shelter, clothes, jobs, schooling, etc and all the way up to citizenship without wanting to actually assimilate. If you decide you’re going to take a walk in a dangerous section of Chicago in the night, what happens is on you. You were warned.

(USA Today) In May, Reuters reporters came across Colombians, Ecuadoreans, Peruvians, Turks, Brazilians, Jordanians, Egyptians, Indians and Chinese – a more varied mix than the Mexicans and Central Americans who formed the bulk of migrants in years past.

Where are these people getting the money and resources to make these long trips? There are many from the African continent coming. Same with the Middle East, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. That’s not cheap. This is an invasion. Back to the original article

Meanwhile, human rights advocates say, Biden’s order – which is the latest in a number of policy changes aimed at drastically reducing access to the US asylum system – is unlikely achieve its intended purpose of reducing arrivals at the border.

Logistically, it is impossible to completely shut down the border, said Faisal Al-Juburi, chief external affairs officer at Raices, an immigrant support and advocacy group in Texas.

“Phrasing this as ‘shutting the border’ is much more of a PR statement,” Al-Juburi said. “When we look at actually about 30 years of deterrence practices, we know they don’t work long term. What we consistently see is that people just end up taking greater risks.”

There you have a Biden supporter saying this is all theater.

Lawyers and advocates say deterrence policies, such as those outlined in Biden’s executive order, incentivise families in vulnerable situations to make desperate choices. “What we expect to see is a lot of people in desperate situations, for example, separate from their children, and send their children up across the border,” said Alvaro Huerta, director of litigation and advocacy at the Immigrant Defenders Law Center.

Except, the majority are actually young, fighting age men, not women and children. And, the only ones putting their children in danger are the parents.

Americans Are Totally Ready To Take Climate (scam) Action Or Something

Weirdly, they forgot to ask if Americans are willing to spend lots of their own money and give up their freedom and life choices

Survey: Americans ready to take climate action

Most Americans are willing to take steps to help address climate change, a new survey finds.

Why it matters: While some Americans still haven’t accepted climate change’s impact, most believe it’s a major threat.

What they did: Environmental company Veolia and French research and consulting firm Elabe polled 2,000 U.S. adults online between Oct. 17 and Nov. 6, 2023, as part of their “Barometer of Ecological Transformation,” a regular report on global views surrounding climate change.

What they found: 61% of Americans feel vulnerable to a lower quality of life due to climate change, while 57% worry about climate-related health risks, per the survey.

61% of Americans are open to drinking recycled wastewater in the face of water shortages, 74% would eat food grown using recycled water, and 82% would pay more to filter microplastics out of their drinking water.

Interesting. Except none of those are about ‘climate change’, but, actually environmental issues. I’m in on the microplastics stuff. But, what of actual questions about people practicing what they preach? I’m not going to download the survey, since it requires registration. But, I’ve read a bunch of other articles, and none go further than the Axios one above. Why are most surveys afraid to ask the tough questions about people living the carbon neutral lifestyle?
